Well, I did call him a sleeper, but I won't take credit for saying he's going to win. I should have gone to the track and boxed the Superfecta, because I had the right four horses up there, but just in the wrong order.
Jerry Bailey said after the race that Mine That Bird's move was way to early, and I totally agree. The pace was hot, and even though Dunkirk stayed on, the pace slowed down enough in the end to allow Summer Bird to catch them all. Calvin Borel had the horse to win the race, I think he just moved too soon. Regardless, MTB still had a spectacular Triple Crown run, and totally validated his Kentucky Derby romp. I'm excited to see what becomes of him, and since he's a gelding, he'll have a few more years ahead of him. I would imagine their ultimate goal for him would be the Breeder's Cup in November, possibly even the Breeder's Cup Marathon, which ran for the first time last year.
