The Cubs Have Lou's Replacement in the Booth

Whenever Lou is finished in the dugout for the Cubs, whether it's during this year, after this, year, or whenever, the Cubs should realize they have Lou's replacement in their own broadcast booth.

His name is Bob Brenly.

Some people think Lou ought to be fired this year, and while I think Lou has made some mistakes, I don't think he's entirely to blame. His whole team, minus a few guys, is underperforming. Nobody, and I mean nobody predicted the Cubs to be this bad. There are some things that I can blame Lou for, and some that I can't.

Alfonso Soriano is not a leadoff man. Never has been, never will be. He's hitting .231 and has on on-base percentage of under .300. I know what he can do with the bat, but we're not seeing it. What we are seeing is a guy who can't lay off any sort of breaking ball, doesn't steal bases when he does get on base, and his glove is absolutely terrible. Whether or not there's someone above Lou saying that Soriano needs to lead off is beyond me, but he's not getting the job done regardless.

Soto, Bradley, and Fukudome need to start hitting, and the bullpen needs to start finding the plate.

Anyways, back to my original point. Brenly has been the Cubs' color analyst on TV for several years now, and in my opinion, does a really nice job along with Len Kaspar. He's had a chance to observe the team, and knows just as well as Lou what the team needs. He's won a World Series, with the Diamondbacks in 2001. He clearly wants to manage again, as he was in the running for the Brewers job last offseason, among others.

What would the Cubs have to lose? Obviously they want to hire the best candidate possible, but in my opinion, they've got one already at Wrigley everyday. They say catchers make the best managers, so why not give him a shot?
